"It's Only Love" from "Tejas" (1976): A cool, ragged and shuffling countrified song with a guitar lick and harmony vocal that suggests affinity and/or kinship between ZZ and the Rolling Stones.ģ. "Got Me Under Pressure" from "Eliminator" (1983): Nothing partiuclarly bluesy about it, but as relentlessly driving nuts-and-bolts rock goes, it's difficult to top.Ģ. It’s these little touches make us want to take a ride into town ourselves.1. The image has been tinted sepia tone which gives it an old fashioned feel while also conjuring up images from Western movies about cowboys who are more concerned with having fun than making money. The cover for ‘Fandango’ is a closeup shot of Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill sitting on horseback, as if we’re getting to know them better through the lens of film rather than just looking at album art. You can’t help but think that’s what the guys were up to in their spare time before they hit it big with this one! The back of ‘El Loco’ has three cowboys sitting around playing poker with piles upon piles of chips stacked in front of them. The sunset is set against the great expanse of Texas as if to say there’s no other place they’d rather be than home! It also features an image from their live show at Knott’s Berry Farm which was close to their hometown Dallas so serves as both a reminder of where they come from and who they are.
This album’s cover maybe be a little out of place but it perfectly encapsulates that carefree spirit and rowdy, boisterous fun found on this LP. It perfectly captures that lazy country charm typical of music coming out of Texas in the 70s. The back of the CD features three cowboys with hats slung low across their foreheads watching herd after herd graze lazily through golden fields. The cowboy image was used as an homage to their hardworking roots and it also served as inspiration for the band’s name, ZZ Top! This Texas trio were already well on their way to stardom when they released ‘Rio Grand Mud’ in 1972 but it only appeared on number 15 on the Billboard charts due to poor promotion from Warner Bros who dropped them following its release. As if they didn’t have enough guitars already… :) The image looks quintessentially Texan making it a perfect cover for the Tex-Mex sound of this album. The back of the CD features four country boys atop motorcycles at dusk driving down a dirt road. I was trying to find an album cover for zz TOP’s 1990 release called ‘Rhythm’ so I could add it to my list but there are no pictures available! :( Again, sorry about that, maybe you can google “ZZ Top Rhythm” or something? In any case this leaves me with nine top ZZ TOP covers. I’m sorry but there are no pictures available for me to post on my blog about zz TOP Deguello so unfortunately this will have to be left blank :( Maybe you can try googling ‘ZZ TOP DEGUELLO’ or something? It features two robots blasting at each other with laser guns in outer space! I really like this cover because its such an interesting scene that doesn’t seem out of place for zz Top.
